About us

From a fish shop on Route 4 to Broadway

NJ Exotic Pets started when our owner took over an older pet shop called the Aquarium on Route 4 in Elmwood Park.

Two moves and a new name later, it became NJ Exotic Pets: first a small shop on Union Street in Lodi, then a 9,000 square foot store on Route 17. In November 2024 we came back to Elmwood Park, at 143 Broadway.

Reptiles are our specialty. We're also known for animals you won't find at a chain store: kinkajous, coatimundis, four-eyed opossums, sugar gliders and more.

We're strict, on purpose

We won't sell an animal to just anybody. We'll ask how you plan to house and feed it, and you'll leave with the right food, vitamins and setup. If it isn't a good match, we'll say so.

We re-home animals too

We're licensed to buy, sell and re-home exotic animals. We take in animals from animal control and from owners who can no longer keep them, and find them new homes. If you need to re-home a pet, call us first at (973) 396-8897.
